University of Minnesota - Twin Cities
The Department of Genetics, Cell Biology and Development (GCD) at the University of Minnesota (UMN) has multiple Assistant and Associate Professor tenure-track openings in two broad areas:
- Genomics and cell biology, with a focus on fundamental life sciences research that will advance our understanding of how genomes and genotypes confer heterogeneous phenotypes during normal cellular differentiation and development, adaptation, as well as in pathological states.
- Eukaryotic synthetic biology and cell and tissue engineering, spanning the storage and expression of genetic information in eukaryotes, its translation into the workings of individual cells, and the assembly of cells into tissues and organ systems.
Successful candidates will leverage cutting edge technologies (e.g., genome editing, single cell genomics, epigenomics, imaging, and stem cells and organoid platforms) to discover and understand fundamental mechanisms underlying questions related to human health. Finalists will complement existing strengths in UMN research centers, including the Institute of Engineering and Medicine, the Institute for Therapeutics Discovery & Development, the BioTechnology Institute, the Lillehei Heart Institute, the Epigenetics Consortium, and UMN's Medical School's Medical Discovery Teams (e.g., Addiction, Biology of Aging, Cancer, Immunology, and Optical Imaging and Brain Science).
GCD is a vibrant, multi-disciplinary department with outstanding faculty in genomics and genetics, cell biology, and developmental biology. GCD faculty span the Medical School and the College of Biological Sciences and have access to excellent core facilities, an outstanding graduate program, an interdisciplinary environment integrated with translational research, engineering and computational expertise, and life sciences research across scales from atoms to organisms. GCD is located in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul, which consistently rank among the top places to live in the U.S. and are a hub for biotech and biopharmaceutical companies.
The University recognizes and values the critical importance of diversity and inclusion in supporting the academic mission. The University serves a growing community of diverse students and is committed to attracting and retaining employees with varying identities and backgrounds. Candidates must demonstrate an understanding of the barriers facing underrepresented groups and describe their experience and plans to promote equity and inclusion in teaching, mentoring, and research.
