With the increasing frequency of obesity and diabetes, especially in Georgia, cardiovascular disease is reaching epidemic proportions. The Vascular Biology Center at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University knows the demand is high for new and better treatments. Our internationally recognized team of research experts have one goal - to make breakthroughs in the prevention and treatment of disease so that we all may live longer, healthier lives.

Job Summary

Support the lab's research mission with a focus on computational biology & bioinformatics applied to vascular biology, integrating experimental & computational expertise to advance projects centered on hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) signaling and endothelial cell (EC) subtype characterization in peripheral arterial disease. Planning & carrying out complex molecular, cellular, histological, surgical, imaging, & computational experiments with accuracy & precision. Collect, organize, & analyze research data using advanced statistical & bioinformatic tools. Design & implement bioinformatics workflows for single-cell & bulk RNA sequencing to identify HGF-responsive gene programs & EC subtypes. Apply & develop computational pipelines in R (Seurat, clusterProfiler) & Python (Scanpy) for clustering, differential expression, & pathway enrichment analyses. Integrates multi-omics datasets (transcriptomics, metabolomics) to uncover novel mechanisms of peripheral arterial disease pathology. Train & mentor lab members in both lab & computational techniques, write & contribute to publications, grant proposals & presentations, actively generate ideas & results to secure funding, strengthen collaborations, & increase national & international impact.

Responsibilities



Analyze results of experiments and procedures using manual or computer techniques and, if necessary, develop special computer programs to facilitate analysis. Teach and participate in complex bacteriological, chemical, and/or radio-chemical qualitative and quantitative analysis, macro- and micro-serological, histologic and cell culture procedures.

Participate in project planning and development of research protocols while ensuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles and compliance with relevant federal guidelines.

Coordinate and participate in research of scientific literature; summarize and evaluate findings and develop derivative applications of applications of techniques developed by own research activities or reported by other research projects. Present findings at scientific meetings locally, nationally, and internationally.

Compose articles for publication in scientific journals and review articles prepared by others.

Calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and operate microscopes, computer-linked analytical equipment, dedicated computers and other complex scientific equipment. Instruct others in operation of equipment.

Advise principal investigators, other postdocs, students and other research personnel on research techniques, procedures, and other technological aspects of research activities.



Required Qualifications

MD, PhD, or MD/Ph.D. or equivalent from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications
Strong research background in Vascular Biology, Integrative Physiology, Cell Metabolism and/ or Immunology; Special interest will be for a candidate with evidence of working knowledge of computational skills including but not limited to single cell RNA sequencing and other analytic approaches.

Preferred Experience
Expertise in molecular biology, studies of signaling pathways using multiple experimental techniques including cell culture, RNA analysis, chromatin; immunoprecipitation, performing mouse breeding, genotyping, and routine experiments such as cloning, western blot, immunoprecipitation and immunohistochemistry analyses

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities



Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.

SKILLS

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Good organizational skills, detail-oriented and ability to prioritize tasks

Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is a part-time .74 FTE (29.60 hr/week) position. This position will be eligible for partial benefits.

Shift: Days; Monday - Friday.

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
