The Town of Needham's Public Health Division seeks a detail-oriented individual for the position of Epidemiologist/Data Analyst. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Public Health for Nursing and Behavioral Health, this role provides epidemiological and analytical services to support public health education and outreach efforts as well as identify and address areas of concern.

Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; Tuesday 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.; Friday 8:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. (37.5 hours/week)

These duties are a general summary and not all inclusive:

* Identifies needs, opportunities, and sources of data for further investigation in priority areas related to relevant population groups and their health equity experience, including the role of social determinants.

* Applies principles of informatics toward data collection, processing, and analysis in support of epidemiologic practice; participates in projects that involve GIS mapping, Community Health Assessment, cross-sectional and longitudinal analyses.

* Analyzes quantitative surveillance data and qualitative information from public health literature and program monitoring to draw insightful interpretations for data briefs, reports/data requests, and presentations.

* Reviews surveillance data on an ongoing basis to establish baselines and identify trends. Produces data visualization content including tables, charts, maps, infographics, dashboards, etc. for a variety of stakeholders, including the public through website and social media updates.

* Communicates epidemiologic information through various mediums to diverse stakeholders including community groups, Town staff, residents.; provides analytic support services and consultancy to Health Department staff.

* Participates in coalitions including Community Crisis Intervention Team (CCIT), Biosafety Committee, and other town-lead coalitions as needed.

* Develops, evaluates and distributes policies and procedures relevant to epidemiological services to support public health education and outreach.

The following requirements may be substituted by any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job:

* Completion of Bachelor's Degree Program in epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, or a related field

* Four (4) to six (6) years of related work experience in epidemiology, public health, or a related field

Beneficial, but not Required Qualifications:

* A Master's degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, or a related field

* Experience with data analysis software such as SAS, SPSS, Stata, R, PowerBI, Tableau, and/or Epi Info

* Experience with ArcGIS, QGIS, or other mapping software and HTML coding language

* Membership and active participation in one or more public health professional associations

* Demonstrated experience distilling complex public health data for a variety of stakeholders
