Position Summary

The Department of Biology at Metropolitan State University of Denver invites applications for a one-year, non-tenure track lecturer position to begin August 2024. This full time appointment has the opportunity to be renewed. This position is focused on teaching key department courses with strong and/or growing enrollment primarily in the field of Microbiology, although other courses may be taught based on the applicant's background. Responsibilities

Teach 30 semester credit hours per academic year, including all required laboratories. The successful candidate will teach lower division courses that may include Introductory Biology, Introductory Microbiology for Nursing Students with Lab, General Microbiology with Lab, and upper division microbiology courses that could include microbial physiology, pathogenic microbiology, microbial genetics, virology, immunology, microbial ecology, and mycology. The position's teaching role will primarily be in person, with an option for online and/or hybrid instruction for some non-lab courses. A candidate with the appropriate background may also be expected to teach non-microbiology/non-introductory courses such as vertebrate zoology. The successful candidate will also be expected to hold five office hours per week.

Expectations for teaching, academic advising, and service are clearly defined by university and departmental guidelines for retention.

Required Qualifications
  • Earned master's degree in Microbiology or closely related discipline completed no later than the start of the fall 2024 semester in early August


Preferred Qualifications
  • Earned PhD in Microbiology or closely related discipline completed no later than the start of the fall 2024 semester in early August
  • Demonstrated ability to teach introductory-level biology courses and lower and upper division college microbiology courses, such as general microbiology, microbial physiology, virology, or similar courses as evidenced by teaching experience, graduate training, and/or professional expertise. Additional teaching expertise outside of microbiology is welcome
  • Experience with teaching, mentoring, and/or advising a diverse urban student population including but not limited to students of color, LGBTQIA students, students from low-income backgrounds, first-generation students, students with disabilities, undocumented students, nontraditional students, student veterans, and English-language learners


Salary for Announcement

The salary range for this position is $55,000 - $57,000 at Lecturer level. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, education, experience, specialty and training.
